Meeting with DepEd&#8217;s Schools Division in Strengthening Earthquake Preparedness in Albay&#8217;s Education Sector

The APSEMO Mapping Section Team, under the Research and Statistics Division, is participating in the 5-day TRAINING ON GEOGRPAHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR CLIMATE AND DISASTER RISK ASSESSMENT@ in Naga City from June 9 to 13, organized by World Food Progam (WFP) in support to DRR programs of Albay and LGUs.

This WFP’s support to the DRR program of Albay and LGUs will enhance Albay’s Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment process, enabling evidence-based planning and decision-making for disaster risk reduction, while providing APSEMO an opportunity to share its experience and existing programs in DRRM.

APSEMO conducted an in-house training on Basic DRRM for its personnel on June 4-5 in Sorsogon, aiming to level up awareness on basic DRRM principles. The activity assessed staff awareness, serving as a basis for succeeding capacity-building initiatives and ensuring sustainability .

The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) spearheaded the Provincial Earthquake Preparedness Planning on April 10, 2025, held on the 3rd floor of the APSEMO Building.

The discussion, led by geologist Chris Newhall, covered an overview of earthquakes and related terminology, the recent earthquake incident in Myanmar, a comparison between Myanmar’s situation and that of the Philippines, lessons from the 1990 Luzon earthquake, and an in-depth look at Albay’s geological landscape. Mr. Eugene Escobar served as the resource person, sharing valuable insights and expertise to enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of BJMP personnel, showing shared commitment to protecting lives and communities.

1st Quarter Full Council Meeting of the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (APDRRMC)

The Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) began its tree-pruning activity on March 11, 2025, in Magallang, Libon.

The Task Force Typhoon Mitigation is composed of personnel from APSEMO, the Provincial Engineers Office (PEO), the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Albay Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ALECO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The Provincial Government of Albay (PGA) participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025, spearheaded by the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO).

This year’s drill involved all PGA employees stationed at the Main Capitol Building, Capitol Annex, and the APSEMO Building. Following the simultaneous drill, a post-activity assessment was immediately conducted.

APSEMO conducts rain gauge maintenance as part of its regular programs to ensure accurate and reliable weather data.

DILG Albay, led by Mr. James Bataller, convened a meeting today with key stakeholders, including PNP Provincial Director Julius Anonuevo, and representatives from APSEMO, BFP, PSWDO, and PHO, to discuss the Management of the Dead and Missing (MDM).

The meeting aimed to examine the causal link between reported casualties and the shear line phenomenon, ensuring standardized protocols for effective emergency response.

APSEMO’s 20-day EMTB Training Course has commenced at PDOC, led by Mr. Eugene Escobar, US-trained Paramedic, EMT-P of APSEMO, and the wealth of experience of the seasoned EMT of the Albay EMS.

On February 20, 2025, Ms. Bernadette De Los Santos, Chairperson of the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) for Region 5, and Mr. Alvin Milan, Technical Staff of the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division (PMED) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 5, visited APSEMO, represented by Mr. Eugene Escobar.

They conducted a dialogue and consultation to explore possible collaborative undertakings with APSEMO on Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA), focusing on livelihood and agriculture.

The APSEMO Planning and Operations Team with PGSO, started the provincewide inspection of the hazard warning signages and flood markers to ensure public safety and disaster preparedness.

The status of these signages and markers are being noted for appropriate actions.

The APSEMO Research and Statistics team is now in its final phase of validating the population within the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano, which is at risk of volcanic eruption.

As the lead agency in public safety, APSEMO, with Acting Governor Glenda Ong Bongao, play a vital role in maintaining peace and order in Albay, and support the reintegration of FRs into mainstream society through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).

The Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) attended today’s meeting of the Provincial Council for Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (PCAT-VAWC) and the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC).

This engagement enables APSEMO to identify current issues affecting vulnerable sectors, particularly women and children, and acquire updated statistical data on cases of exploitation and human trafficking in Albay. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay (SPA) has approved the recommendation of the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (APSEMO) to declare Albay under State of Calamity due to the province wide devastation of Tropical Storm” Kristine”, today, October 22, 2024.
